Atelier training has never been about memorizing techniques.
Learning Corel Painter is unlike learning most creative software. It is part technical troubleshooting, part understanding a digital medium that doesn’t always behave like traditional materials, and—most importantly—developing the artistic judgment to recognize what a painting truly needs.
Many artists begin by asking which brush to use or which settings to change. More often than not, the real challenge lies somewhere deeper: understanding value, edges, color relationships, composition, surface, and developing a workflow that supports the work they long to create.
Over more than two decades of working in Corel Painter, Heather Michelle Chinn has devoted her career to understanding not only how the software works, but how the timeless principles of traditional painting can live authentically within a digital medium.
Because every artist arrives with different strengths, challenges, and artistic aspirations, no two mentorships are exactly alike. Rather than following a rigid curriculum, each course of study is thoughtfully shaped around the individual artist—building technical confidence, artistic judgment, and a repeatable workflow designed specifically for their creative destination.
Heather believes technology should never replace artistic vision. Her greatest joy is helping artists bridge the gap between traditional and digital painting until they no longer think like software users—they begin thinking like painters.
The Door is for artists who desire more than technique.
For the quiet creators.
The thoughtful observers.
The photographers longing to create painterly heirlooms.
The artists who have never quite fit the mold because they care more about craftsmanship than shortcuts.
Whether you’re just beginning your journey in Corel Painter or you’ve been using it for years, Heather’s approach is designed for artists who want more than software instruction. They want to understand why a painting works, develop the judgment to solve artistic problems, and build a workflow that feels authentic to their own creative voice.
You don’t need to know exactly where to begin.
You simply need the desire to grow.
The rest is learned—one thoughtful brushstroke at a time.
Sessions are limited. This is a private, curated experience. Please fill out the form below to request your spot.
Photographers and painters often come to me saying…
“I don’t even know where to start—Painter is overwhelming.”
“I got stuck halfway through a client piece and couldn’t finish it in time.”
“All my paintings look the same—I think I’m using the wrong brushes.”
If that sounds like you, I can help.
Heather Michelle Chinn is a professional portrait artist, Corel Painter Master Elite & Cert. Educator, former Golden Artist Educator, PPA M. Artist, Cr, Ph. and former international print competition juror who has spent more than two decades helping artists bridge the gap between traditional painting and the digital studio.
Drawing upon years of experience as both an exhibiting artist and a trusted ghost painter for professional photographers and studios, Heather brings a rare combination of artistic craftsmanship, technical expertise, and individualized mentorship to every course of study.
Her teaching is rooted in a simple belief: every artist deserves thoughtful guidance, honest critique, and a personalized path toward developing work that is authentically their own. She values clarity over complexity, craftsmanship over shortcuts, and believes the quickest path to artistic growth is honest instruction delivered with patience, discernment, and respect.
This is not for everyone. It’s for the few.
You’ve knocked. The Door is open.
Personalized Instruction
Every artist arrives with a different background, learning style, and artistic destination. Rather than following a fixed curriculum, Heather builds each mentorship around the individual artist—developing personalized workflows, brush libraries, textures, color palettes, and Studio Assignments that support the work they ultimately want to create.
Traditional Foundations. Digital Mastery.
Heather’s teaching is rooted in the timeless principles of the traditional atelier and informed by more than two decades of professional experience in Corel Painter. Students learn far more than software—they learn to think like painters, developing artistic judgment that extends beyond any single medium.
Designed for Photographers
As both an artist and professional photographer, Heather understands the unique challenges photographers face when translating photographic captures into painterly artwork. Her mentorship bridges the gap between technical precision and artistic expression, helping photographers create meaningful heirloom artwork with confidence.
Real-World Professional Experience
For decades, Heather has worked behind the scenes as a trusted ghost painter for photographers and studios, creating client-ready artwork under real deadlines and professional expectations. That experience shapes every mentorship, bringing practical problem-solving alongside artistic development.
A Thoughtful Learning Environment
Heather’s mentorship emphasizes craftsmanship, patience, and genuine artistic growth. Students are encouraged to ask questions, experiment thoughtfully, embrace constructive critique, and develop confidence through consistent practice rather than shortcuts.
A Personalized Course of Study
No two artists learn in exactly the same way. Every course of study evolves through conversation, Studio Assignments, critiques, and ongoing feedback, ensuring each artist receives guidance that supports their individual goals and creative voice.
The role is not to impress. It’s to illuminate.
Heather teaches from a place of precision, but also from presence.
Her background spans professional speaking, traditional fine art, and more than two decades of helping artists navigate the unique challenges of Corel Painter. As an INFJ and an artist with a deeply faith-rooted sense of discernment, Heather has a natural ability to recognize patterns, identify underlying obstacles, and quickly see beyond surface-level questions. Rather than forcing every artist through the same curriculum, she adapts her teaching in real time—helping students uncover the true challenges holding them back while dramatically shortening their learning curve.
Heather does not believe in mass education.
She believes in mentorship.
She believes the best teachers listen before they instruct, and that the best students arrive with curiosity, humility, and a willingness to grow.
She teaches Corel Painter like a mapmaker—not simply handing students a set of instructions, but walking beside them until unfamiliar terrain begins to feel like home.
Her atelier is designed for artists who value craftsmanship over shortcuts, thoughtful practice over quick fixes, and genuine artistic growth over performance.
There is a reason Heather has spent decades ghost painting behind the scenes, speaking on stages, and quietly mentoring artists one-on-one. She believes the most meaningful artistic growth rarely happens in the spotlight.
It happens through faithful work, thoughtful guidance, and a willingness to keep learning.
If that resonates with you, welcome to The Door.
"I built this atelier for artists who believe craftsmanship is worth pursuing. I believe in shortening unnecessary learning curves—not the process of artistic growth itself. Over more than two decades, I’ve learned how to help artists avoid years of technical frustration, inefficient workflows, and unnecessary trial and error. That’s time better spent developing the artistic eye, judgment, and confidence that only come through thoughtful practice. Some things can be taught more efficiently. Others can only be earned. This atelier is designed to help you recognize the difference."
